Led by Tianyu Plastic! China's First Carrier Standard for Lithium Battery Materials is Officially Released!

With the rapid development of the global new energy vehicle industry, the performance and safety requirements for power batteries—known as the "heart" of new energy vehicles—have become increasingly stringent. Battery separators are one of the core inner components of power batteries, directly affecting the battery's capacity, cycle life, and safety performance. As a key winding core that carries and winds separator substrates during battery separator production, the dimensional accuracy, mechanical properties, surface quality, and cleanliness of ABS cores play a crucial role in the production efficiency and finished product quality of ultra-thin and high-strength separators.


Recently, the standard "Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS) cores for Power Battery Separators of New Energy Vehicles" (hereinafter referred to as "the Standard", Standard No.: T/CPPIA 56-2025), proposed by the Group Standard Technical Committee of China Plastics Processing Industry Association (CPPIA), organized by the Battery Film Professional Committee of CPPIA, and led by Suzhou Tianyu Plastic Co., Ltd. in drafting and formulating, has passed the review and been officially released. The Standard will come into force on November 1, 2025. Its issuance fills the gap in domestic product standards for this specific field, and it is of great significance for ensuring the production quality of power battery separators and enhancing the stability and competitiveness of the industrial chain and supply chain.
The Standard drafted and formulated by our company specifies in detail the terms and definitions, product classification, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, as well as marking, packaging, transportation, and storage of ABS cores used in the production of power battery separators for new energy vehicles. 
Its core technical indicators focus on:
Dimensional and geometric tolerances: Ensuring high-precision matching between cores and production lines, reducing vibration and deviation during operation.
Mechanical properties: Including flexural strength, hardness, etc., to ensure the structural stability and durability of cores under high winding tension, preventing deformation or fracture.
Surface quality: Setting extremely high requirements for smoothness, freedom from defects, and non-contamination, avoiding scratches or pollution to high-value separator materials.
Cleanliness: Strictly controlling dust, volatile substances, etc., to meet the stringent requirements for a clean environment in battery production.
Special properties: Such as antistatic performance to reduce dust adsorption.


The release and implementation of the Standard will provide clear product production and quality inspection basis for core manufacturers, and reliable procurement and technical acceptance guidelines for separator manufacturers, effectively promoting the standardization and consistency of product quality. This not only helps reduce losses and failure rates in the separator production process, improve yield and production efficiency, but also provides a solid guarantee for manufacturing higher-performance, safer, and more reliable power batteries from the raw material end, ultimately promoting the overall quality improvement, upgrading, and high-quality development of China's new energy vehicle industrial chain.
